This is a great deal and for the record, I love my dyson. I have had it about 5 years now and payed over 500 for it back then.

How does it work on non-carpeted areas and with pet hair?

I have a remanufactured Dyson and you'd never know that it was remanufactured if I did not tell you. I have the DC17. I do not have any indoor pets but my husband and son do seem to bring in dog hair after playing with the dogs. I also only have one area rug (living room) and a short runner at the garage door hallway. All of the other floors are either wood, laminate or linoleum. The Dyson works very well on the non-carpeted areas. The pet hair, dirt, dust, wood chips (how does my son get so much wood chips in his shoes?), my hair, etc. are no match for the Dyson!

Thanks Lucy! Has anyone tried it on cat litter? Every vac I have ever owned spits the stuff back out at me!
