View Full Version : What do you think of people who shop at Walmart?

My friend just read on another site that people who shop at Walmart are uneducated, poor, have no manners and are basically trashy people. She sent the link so I could read it myself. It seemed to be the general consensus. I was just wondering what others thought about shopping at Walmart?
It was kinda funny, the moderator over there said she shopped at Walmart and obviously so did everyone who was complaining about the people who shop there. They kinda slammed her for it though.

I can offer the perspective from the city and rural America.
I grew up in a small town in upstate New York. We had a bunch of the mid sized stores within a 30 minute drive. Once they built a WalMart about 15 years ago, they all died. I heard someone refer to it like a virus that eats up all the life around it. On the upside, my parents are on a fixed income and so it is a huge benefit to them.
They say it effects the small town worst, but WalMart says "Hey , now you can get $3 froot of the looms!!!"
I shop at WalMart here in ATL for most of my cleaning supplies because they are just so much cheaper. Kroger is the only doubler so I do alot of weekly stock up there, and its in and out with the self checkout so when I need to be out quick I go there. Publix has the BOGO which with coupons are the best buys I can find. (Today I got 2 Cool Whips for free, nothing beats the feeling especially when the cashier says "Hey, those are free!!!")
What they said on the other site was true, so just stay out of WalMart at night and you're fine.
Also I'll put my degree, SAT scores, and IQ, against anyone that thinks paying more for the same thing is a good idea.

I'll go up against you on that one! Walmart in DFW is a experience that I prefer to skip and I am willing to pay a little bit more to go to Target. I've had friends visit from out of state (even from NYC) and after 1 trip to my closest Walmart, they understand my feelings. I'm all for saving $, but the $2 or $3 I save by going to Walmart instead of Target is not worth my sanity!

I may have to rethink everything if you're doing that well at Target. :confused0088:
There's one across the street from my office that I go to at lunch time to walk the aisles looking for clearance. I've always had the impression they were more expensive so I never do real shopping. Although, it is funny that I was in there on Friday and they had multiple packs of everything for cleaning on clearnace. It was all 3 bottles for $3.80 which seems pretty cheap for the name brand stuff. They had a lot so I'm waiting for it to fall more before I buy anything.
BTW, some of my best Target finds
Disney Cinderella glass Snow Globe musicbox ($24): 90 cents
54in Poly NBA Goal with stand ($249) ; $35
20in Stereo TV($129): $18

Watch the sales and clearances at Target for some really good deals. I'm watching the cleaning stuff because it has only been marked down 15% here. Waiting for at least 30% and preferrably 50% before I actually purchase any more. Not like I need any, but the Lysol toilet bowl cleaner works well on bathtubs and lots cheaper than Scrubbing Bubbles!

I had to run an errand that brought me by WM so I figured I'd run in and grab S'more stuff that was on sale.
Lines everywhere, except at CS so I go there and give my items and three q's.
CS: Uh... we don't take internet q's.
Me: Really? Is this a new policy?
CS: No.
M: OK because I've used a ton of them here.
CS: Well they shouldn't have accepted them.
M: Is there a manager?
CS sure
Manager: It says copies are void and these are copies.
Me: Right, but these are print outs, not copies.
Man: How do I know that?
Me: Does it scan and is the bar code correct?
Man: That doesn't mean anything. A copy will still scan.
OK, fine. I decide to forget the purchase and just leave, but then I remember I have the q policy in my binder.
Me: Not a big deal, but in case you are interested (handing her the WM q policy page printout)
Man: How do I know this is real?
Me: The web address is at the bottom, keep it and check it out yourself. Have a nice night.
Man: OK, we'll take them.
At this point, I say OK, she's making an effort so I'll just smile and say Thank you. Then as I watch her scan them I realize that one has "Redeem at Publix only" written on it. No beeps or anything and it went through fine so that mystery is solved.

Good for you! Yet again one of the many reasons I don't bother with them though!

I will go to Walmart when I absolutely have to. My Super Walmart has a great garden center though. And I always get hassled for using coupons. They critique every little detail on coupons and 9 times out of 10 I am explaining how to use the coupons.
I'd rather go to Target. They have cheaper items and I have heard they are finally going to Price match.

I avoid Walmart as all costs as well. There is one very close to my house and I have gone there on nights when DH ticked me off and I just wanted to go somewhere lol but normally I won't go there.

I used to shop Walmart when I worked since it was one-stop shopping. I also thought they had the lower prices (wrong). Since I have been out of work I have saved more shopping Kroger than I ever did at Walmart. Plus they won't accept internet coupons. Funny thing, before moving to such a rural area I would never shop at Walmart. Truth is, most people who shop Walmart think they have the lowest prices and with the price match they feel comfortable they are getting the best deal (like I did), but I find with double coupons up to 50¢ and no hassle on interest prints I would rather shop Kroger. That and I get free and super cheap cleaning and household supplies at the CVS across the street.

This is going to amaze those who know my shopping habits, but I actually a positive experience at Walmart the other day. I didn't actually BUY anything (was on a quest for a specific storage box) and was in the store at 9:00 on Saturday morning, but it was clean, quiet and organized (for Walmart). Even the RESTROOM :toiletpaper: was clean which amazed me since theirs always make me cringe. Maybe it was a good experience since there were no screaming kids or smelly people (Texas stores in summer are brutally stinky), but I might go back if there is a really good sale.
Of course, now that Target price matches....

I avoid Walmart like the plag...in the DFW area. I know my inlaws in South Dakota love the fact they have one, but I hate it. Walmart does eventually force the smaller business out (in small towns) and in the cities...there isn't enough money saving to make me go fight the crowds, bad parking lots, crime, etc. unless I forget to buy papers and am force to go get them later in the week...they are the only ones who have them. When my inlaws come and visit, they understand my feelings about it after going.

Walmart is not cheap. They don't double coupons at least here they don't. I shop at meijers. Great store with great prices. Its also a super center. Target I dont care for either. We have a target here and I think i have been in it about 3 or 4 times. But I tend to shop at stores that superdouble coupons..Walmart just helped close down our Kmart, which has been here since the 70's now we dont have one.
