Traditionally, we think of the lowly nightstand as a place to keep our alarm clock and eyeglasses. Perhaps a book, a small lamp or a telephone rests there. But as storage goes, we don't ask too much of our nightstands.
Well, if you're craving more storage space in your small or cluttered bedroom, maybe you should ask more of your nightstand. After all, a new nightstand can give you much-needed storage or provide a new way to organize clothes and other items in your bedroom. Depending on your storage needs, consider:
A Bookcase.
If you're an avid reader, a short bookcase may be the perfect solution for your nightstand. But a bookcase can also make great storage for photo boxes, videos or shoes. Consider buying some matching bins where you can store your socks, belts, scarves or purses.
An End Table.
An end table is usually larger than a nightstand, so it gives you more surface area for all the items you need next to your bed. End tables often have drawers, where you can store jewelry, or your numerous electronics chargers and the like. And finally, you might choose an end table with a bottom shelf, where you could display photos, a small sculpture or a basket for yet more storage.
A Small Dresser.
If dresser space is truly a priority, why not put a small dresser next to your bed? It could store small items, such as socks and underwear,or items that have no other home in a small bedroom, such as extra sets of sheets and pillowcases.
A Round Table.
Want to dress up your bedroom and add more storage without spending a lot? Consider a medium-density fiberboard round table, covered with a round tablecloth that compliments your linens. These tables are very inexpensive but offer a large surface area next to your bed - plus room to hide unsightly items under the tablecloth.
The best part is, when you're ready to redecorate, all of these pieces of furniture can work in nearly any room of the house.
